got up this morning to run and it was raining SO hard. i'm packing my bag and going to try the treadmill at the gym tonight. don't like the gym, but i'm left with no choice. if the weather looks okay later on i'll come home and run my neighborhood route, but it doesn't look promising...
the treadmill. rodent wheel for people. don't like 'em. boooooring. but i have my nano, and of course my never ending internal monologue to entertain me. and then there's the people watching... there's that, i have that...

Running outside is always preferable. The Seattle waterfront is a great little jog, and the fresh salt air smells so good when the diesel fumes from the viaduct aren't wafting down.
So much better than watching Dr. Phil with the ladies who are half-assing it on the stationary bikes. Ironically, while their efforts are half-assed, their actual asses are not.
HA! so true... so i packed a gym bag and left it on my bed. obviously, i enjoy self-sabotage. i'll have to zip home at lunch time and grab it. or cross my fingers for a small 45 minute break in the weather. or just grow a pair. i could do that, too.
The treadmill. I have become slightly addicted. Outside runs are best, of course, and I try to get in at least one a week. But the treadmill has a couple of advantages: (1) you can run hills where they don't exist and you never get to run lazy-ass-cardio-saving downhill, and (2) it provides pace control, faster, slower, faster, slower...ooh, wait a minute...that's another kind of exercise.
obsessive about your eating and obsessive about the treadmill? don't make me come over there, duct tape you to your chair and force feed you cake, my brother.
'sides, i've heard tell that treadmill running doesn't equal road running mile for mile for a couple of reasons. one - the ground is moving beneath you, so you're legs don't have to work as hard to propel you, two - no wind drag 'cause you're not moving forward through air, three - if you hold on to the bars (which, really, who does this?) you're supporting some of your weight (as opposed to your legs supporting all of your weight).
BUT, it is a good way to keep training when weather doesn't cooperate.
